Parish Life & Volunteer Opportunities

St. Augustine Parish has a multitude of opportunities for parish members to volunteer their time to others within the parish family. For specific information on any of these additional opportunities please click on the expandable menu items below.

  • Adoration

    Eucharistic Adoration takes place every Monday at St. Augustine from 9AM-9PM. Volunteers are needed to sign up for a one-hour commitment to be present to pray.

  • Adult Faith Formation

    Members of this ministry promote the ongoing educational and spiritual development of adult parishioners. They work closely with the Pastor to assess the spiritual needs of the wider parish community and then strive to meet these needs through various outreach and programs. Team meets one every three months or as needed.

  • Art & Environment Committee

    Members serve the parish in preparing the environment for worship. They are responsible for decorating the church, taking care of the plants and flowers inside  the church, and helping to set up and take down seasonal decorations.

  • Babysitting

    Members provide nursery services during the 10AM Mass on Sunday in the rectory basement. Babysitters are assigned once per quarter.

  • Baptism Prep

    Members of this ministry provide information and church requirements for the Sacrament of Baptism. There is an opportunity for parents to come together to discuss the sacrament and its importance in the family life of the Church, as well as the importance of raising their children in the Faith. Baptism Prep Classes are scheduled the third Tuesday in January, March, July, September and November.  Baptism Prep Classes are required for all first-time parents.

  • Bereavement Team

    Members of this ministry meet to extend prayerful support to those in the parish community who have experienced the loss of a loved one. They perform prayer service at the end of calling hours at the funeral home.  This ministry also coordinates the yearly All Souls Mass of Remembrance for all parishioners who have died the past year.

  • Building & Maintenance Committee

    Members meet monthly to oversee the physical condition of the parish buildings, land, and equipment. They aid in the short and long term planning for maintenance, replacement, and expansion. Members serve a three year term.

  • Bus Driver

    Works 5-10 hours per week transporting K- 8th grade students from Minster Elementary School to the St. Augustine Parish Center and occasional field trips. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, possess CDL with bus driver endorsement, have a satisfactory driving record.

  • Cantor

    Cantors are the soloists who lead the Psalms and Hymns at liturgical celebrations in which a choir is not singing. Cantors sing approximately 1-2 times per month.  An audition with the Director of Music is required.

  • Catechist

    Our parish offers parishioners the opportunity to provide faith formation to our youth by teaching religion classes. Teaching is a once a week commitment and training and ongoing support is provided.

  • Cemetery Board

    The Cemetery Board meets every other month to manage and control the operation of St Augustine Cemetery and makes sure the property is properly maintained.  The Board sets all policies concerning use of the Cemetery.

  • Children's Choir

    Children in the Youth Choir share their gifts with each other and the assembly, but also gain a fuller appreciation for the liturgy and for church music. It is also an excellent setting for developing new friendships and for growing in mind, body, and spirit. Open to children in 4th grade - 8th grade. Rehearsals are on Thursdays after school Sept – May. Performances are at the weekly Wednesday School Mass, and one Sunday Mass per month.

  • Children's Liturgy of the Word

    Children 3 years old thru 1st grade are dismissed after the opening prayer.  Children walk to the rectory where adult leaders, high school assistants and children will discuss the Gospel at the child’s level. Then return to Mass during the offertory procession. It is our hope the children will make the biblical readings their own and come to appreciate the value of God’s Word. Liturgy of the Word takes place once per month Oct – Apr at the 11:30 am Mass.

  • Church Tour Guide

    Personally gain and share with others a respect for the commitment of our ancestors by learning and telling about the church they built. Tours of the church are offered to groups and individuals as needed. The time commitment to this ministry varies depending on requests for tours. Training is provided.

  • Collection Counter

    Members count the weekly collection on Mondays. Volunteers will also help count collections for special Masses or Holy Days during the week.

  • Communion to the Homebound

    These Ministers share the Body and Blood of Jesus with the parish members who are no longer able to attend Mass due to health reasons. Communion is given any day of the week that best fits the distributors schedule.

  • CYO Coach

    The St. Augustine/St. Joseph Cluster supports various boys and girls CYO basketball teams through the efforts of the North Valley CYO League. Games are played on Sunday afternoons in various locations from October through February, and practices are Wednesday nights at Minster High School.

  • Digital Discipleship

    Members help build a better relationship to Jesus Christ and with each other through text messages. Each member offers positive, uplifting messages whenever they feel God is present in their lives.

  • Eucharistic Minister

    An opportunity to participate in offering the true presence of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ! These Ministers share the Body and Blood of Jesus with the parish community during weekend Mass and holy days. To be a Minister of Communion one must be sixteen years old, be confirmed, and attend training. Eucharistic Ministers serve approx.. once per month.

  • Field Trip Chaperone

    Travel with various age groups K-12 for youth activities that enhance their religious education.

  • Finance Committee

    The Committee is a consultative body established to advise and assist the pastor and Parish Pastoral Council in matters pertaining to the financial affairs of the parish. The Committee generally meets on a monthly basis (except for December and July). They perform periodic review of financial statements, approve of parish expenditures, develop an annual budget, assist in development of safeguards, and works with other parish committees to provide financial information and guidance. Members serve three year terms.

  • FOCCUS Couple

    This ministry is made of couples from the parish that meet with engaged couples and aid them in discussing married life. Training is provided and engaged couples are assigned to you according to your schedule.

  • Folk Group

    Minster Folk Group to helps enhance the beauty of the Mass, and to assist the congregation in the sung prayer as we grow in our faith together using various instruments. Rehearsal on Tuesday nights and performance at Mass twice 2-4 time per month.

  • Funeral Server

    Adults who get things ready, light the candles, carry the books used during Mass, and light incense for incensation of the casket at funerals.  Generally, they help the priest as they are needed.

  • Greeter

    Greeters show up 15-20 minutes before Mass to welcome parishioners to St. Augustine. Greeter serve once per month.

  • Instrumentalists

    Instrumentalists provide the music for select Church Liturgies throughout the year. Instrumentalists provide accompaniment with the use of various instruments. Must provide your own instrument.

  • Knights of Columbus

    The K of C fosters Christian charity through various programs, to come to know brother knights and to see in them examples of Christian living, and to promote ideals held important by our Catholic faith. Hold monthly meetings which members are encouraged to attend; in addition, members are asked to participate in many fundraising, social, and parish events each year.

  • Lead Stations of the Cross

    The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. At each station, the individual recalls and meditates on a specific event from Christ's last day. Specific prayers are recited, then the individual moves to the next station until all 14 are complete. Training booklet provided.

  • Lector

    Lectors proclaim the Word of God at the Eucharist.  By reading Scripture to the gathered church community they make present the words of Jesus.  To be commissioned a Lector one must be 16 years old, be Confirmed and attend an initial training session to demonstrate adequate skills in reading. Lectors read approx. 6 times per year.

  • Mass Monitor

    Attend Wednesday morning Mass during the school year to supervisor students during the Liturgy.

  • Men's Choir

    The Men’s Choir is a musical brotherhood founded in 1907 which continues its strong tradition of excellence. They also participate in fellowship evenings and social events.  Those who wish to join are asked to audition before the joining the choir. The Men’s Choir sings at the Sunday liturgy at 10:00 AM Sept-May, other events as deemed by the Director. The Men's Choir rehearses Wednesday nights in the balcony at 7:00 PM.

  • Men's Prayer Group

    Members meet regularly on Saturday mornings to discuss Scripture, share faith, and pray for one another, as well as the needs of the entire Parish.

  • Mission Commission

    The Mission Commission gathers monthly to reach out to community members who are in need. They host several fund drives each year that allows them to distribute money to various missions. They are the primary group that helps needy families, shut ins, nursing homes residents, elderly parishioners and charitable organizations in the area.

  • Mixed Choir

    The Mixed Choir is a group of men and women who lead the congregation in faith-filled singing during the liturgy and encourage prayer and worship through song. The close-knit group strives to enhance the liturgies through music and to work.  The Mixed Choir sings the first Sunday of the month and other special Holy Days, holidays, and other special events. Rehearsal is twice per month on Wednesdays at 7 PM, in the church balcony.

  • MoM (Ministry of Mothers)

    Ministry of Mothers (MoM) is a group of Catholic Mothers committed to creating a warm, welcoming environment for Catholic moms in the Minster community to aid in fellowship, friendship, service, and fun for expecting mothers and mothers of young children. Our fellowship will include the rosary, playdates, and many other faith-enriched activities to come! Meet once per month.

  • Oktoberfest Bingo Stand

    Great opportunity to meet new friends and help raise funds for the Church. Work a 2 hour shift at the Annual Oktoberfest selling instant Bingo tickets. Training provided.

  • Parish Council

    The Parish Council acts as an advisory group to the Pastor in all parish and community matters.  They study the needs of the parish and maintain regular communication between the pastor and lay people.  Council meetings are open to all parishioners and everyone is encouraged to come and voice their concerns. Member serve a three year term. Meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month except June, July & December.

  • Parish Mailing & Assembly

    Join with other parishioners in assisting the Parish Office prepare large mailings by stuffing envelopes and/or making phone calls. Much fellowship is shared among the group. Assistance is needs 3-4 times per year.

  • Resurrection Choir

    The Resurrection Choir leads the congregation in faith-filled singing for funeral liturgies. Resurrection Choir is open to all. Resurrection Choir members are on call to sing for all funerals that take place at the church. Most funerals take place at 10:00 AM. Rehearsals are held when needed.

    Members meet monthly to organize and advocate for all life issues.

  • Rosary Leader

    Members lead the Rosary at church before funerals, at Eucharistic Adoration, and special times through out the year.

  • Server

    Our parish is grateful to the young men and women who serve at the Lord’s table. They get things ready, light the candles, carry the books used during Mass, and say prayers in the sanctuary.  Generally, they help the priest as they are needed. Boys and girls start serving when they are in the sixth grade and continue, if they desire, through high school.

    Members assist with the flow of parishioners entering, during, and when exiting our liturgies, provide worship aids, arrange seating, take up the offering, assist at Communion, and distribute bulletins.

    Joyfully share the gifts of faith, patience, discipline, and have fun with the children of our parish. One week every other year.

  • Wedding Assistant

    Wedding Assistants assure that couples who begin their married life in our beautiful church experience a sacred, memorable, happy day! Wedding Assistants are present at church before, during and after the Friday rehearsal and the Saturday ceremony. They assure that the church and buildings are prepared and they coordinate the arrangements with wedding participants (wedding party, family, clergy, florist, musicians, photographer, etc.). Serve 6-7 times per year.
