The historic twin steeples of St. Augustine Church are facing several critical maintenance challenges, including severe water leaks, copper deterioration, cracks, and damage to the seals and exterior surfaces, all of which threaten the integrity of these iconic structures. The clock faces, a prominent feature of the towers, also require reconditioning to restore their original appearance and functionality. These steeples, which have stood for nearly 150 years, hold a rich history of changes and improvements—starting in 1874 when the original single tower was replaced with 90-foot-high twin towers, built by master builder Joann Anton Goehr. Over the years, the steeples have undergone numerous repairs and updates, including the relocation of the bells in 1876, the addition of copper crosses in 1929, and extensive copper work in 1939. The towers withstood gale-force winds in 1964, underwent major renovations in the 1950s, and were illuminated in 1996. Now, after decades of wear and tear, these beloved towers require our collective effort to preserve their legacy. We invite you to watch our fundraising progress and join the community in restoring the twin steeples, ensuring they remain a beacon of history and faith for generations to come. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us bring these steeples back to their former glory, preserving their significance for future generations.
