Cost and Scope

The extensive restoration project involves several critical steps to ensure the steeples' long-term preservation. The process begins with the removal of all existing copper between the top of the masonry and the bottom of the slate roofing. Once removed, all sheathing will be re-fastened and new underlayment installed. The next phase involves fabricating and installing new copper cladding that will closely match the historical appearance of the existing copper. This new installation will utilize a combination of 16 and 20-ounce copper sheet metal, secured with copper and stainless steel fasteners. To ensure durability and prevent water damage, expansion joints will be incorporated to accommodate thermal changes, and all water-prone seams will be soldered. The restoration work will be carried out using a combination of scaffolding and aerial lifts to access all areas safely. The project also includes the refurbishment of the eight clock faces, which will be prepared and painted, with the numerals and clock hands receiving new gold-leaf treatment.
