Lenton Almsgiving Project

Volunteer Opportunities

Opie’s Casket Kits: In July 2024, baby Opie was born still. His father and grandfather lovingly handcrafted his casket, using his mother’s wedding gown for the mattress and pillow. This act brought them deep fulfillment, and we hope to offer the same opportunity to others. If you are a woodworker interested in helping craft casket kits, call Cindy at the Rectory Office (419-628-2614). A sample casket is displayed in the rear vestibule of St. Augustine Church.

Sewing for a Purpose: Every casket includes a handmade pillow and mattress, and each miscarriage kit comes with a jar cover. All fabric and materials will be provided - pick up anytime in the rectory lobby. You can sew at your own pace and return completed items to the church by Easter. A sample pillow and mattress are displayed in the rear vestibule of St. Augustine Church.

After-Care Kits: Morgan’s Place is dedicated to easing burdens that can separate families from Christ following the loss of a baby. Providing a nourishing meal allows families to focus on healing - body, mind, and spirit. Each mother is also gifted a personal care box. Join us in preparing freezer meals on Sunday, April 13th, from 12:00 - 6:00 PM (2 hour shifts) and Monday, April 14th, from 5:00 - 7:00PM in the Rectory Basement. Your help offers comfort and support when it’s needed most.

Donation of Goods

  • We need various items to support our volunteers and Morgan’s Place. Thank you for your generosity!
  • Hardwood for caskets (3/4” x 10” x 8’ sheet). No particle board or OSB please. Drop off in the first bay of the rectory garage anytime.

  • A miscarriage kit provides emotional and practical support for families experiencing pregnancy loss at home. Since most early miscarriages happen naturally outside of a hospital setting, a kit can help parents navigate the physical process while also honoring their baby's life. Kit items can be purchased on Amazon at: https://bit.ly/3X8bxkj.
